Reekado Banks Threatens to Expose ‘Demonic Forces’ in Nigerian Music

Nigerian music sensation Reekado Banks has sparked conversation with a bold statement on social media, accusing certain figures within the Nigerian music industry of hindering the growth of emerging talents. On March 25, 2025, the singer took to X (formerly Twitter), expressing his concerns over individuals he believes are negatively impacting the careers of promising artists.

In his post, Reekado Banks stated that these individuals—whom he described as either “demonic” or “clueless”—somehow manage to find the brightest up-and-coming talents, only to make decisions that stunt their growth or, worse, push them to give up on their dreams. He wrote:

“One day, I’ll take an interview to talk about someone in the corners of the entertainment industry, who’s either absolutely CLUELESS or plain DEMONIC. Somehow, the brightest budding talents fall in their lap and either through cluelessness or pure demonic activities, they agree to policies that effectively slow these talents down and for some other talents, frustrate them out of pursuing their dreams. One day…”

This statement from Reekado Banks isn’t surprising to many who have followed the ongoing tension between artists and their management teams in the Nigerian music scene. Over the years, several rising stars have publicly accused their record labels of exploiting them or hindering their growth with poor decisions or harsh policies.

While fans may speculate about who Reekado Banks is referring to in his post, it’s unlikely that he’s talking about his previous label, Mavin Records, under which he gained widespread fame. In fact, Reekado has always maintained that his departure from Mavin was amicable, contrary to the sometimes bitter public disputes that have marred other artist-label relationships in the Nigerian music industry.

In a past interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Reekado Banks clarified any misunderstandings about his exit from Mavin Records. He explained that his decision to leave was mutual, and that the label’s founder, Don Jazzy, had supported his choice. “That man took me from absolutely nothing. I wonder why anyone would think it wasn’t amicable. The end of the contract came, I wanted to leave, and he (Don Jazzy) gave me his blessings,” Reekado said.

While Reekado Banks’ split with Mavin Records remains one of the few smooth transitions in the Nigerian music industry, his recent statement highlights a growing concern about the treatment of artists by record labels and management teams. His post serves as a reminder of the challenges that many talented individuals face in their journey to success and calls attention to the sometimes detrimental influence of those in positions of power within the industry.

As the conversation unfolds, Reekado Banks’ message has reignited discussions about the importance of supporting emerging talents and fostering an environment where they can thrive. The artist’s words have left fans and industry insiders alike wondering who he might be referencing, further fueling speculation about the hidden dynamics within Nigeria’s ever-evolving music scene.
