The Nollywood film industry is in mourning following the sudden death of beloved actress Nkechi Nweje. The 60-year-old star passed away after a brief illness, with the sad news confirmed by movie producer Stanley Ajemba, better known as Stanley Ontop, on his Instagram page on Saturday.

In a heartfelt tribute, Stanley expressed shock and disbelief over Nweje’s untimely demise, revealing that he had struggled to post about her death earlier because it felt like a “dream” to him. He described Nweje as a vibrant actress, best friend, and mentor who had always been there for him, offering advice and encouragement.
Reflecting on their last conversation during the production of Queenth Saga, Stanley shared that Nweje had advised him to take a step back, writing: “She always called me on the phone advising me. The last time we spoke was during Queenth Saga, she said Ontop stop.”
In his tribute, Stanley wrote: “Nollywood is in tears as we lost one of our vibrant Nollywood actresses @nkechi.nweje after a brief illness. I couldn’t post since morning because it was like a dream to me. Ezigbo Nwanyi Onitsha, rest in peace ma’am, my best friend.” He concluded with: “I am still speechless.”
