I prefer not to have a child without being married – Rema
Nigerian music star Rema has shared his personal views on family, relationships, and promiscuity, declaring that he is not open to having children outside of wedlock. The Calm Down hitmaker, who recently made history as the first Black African artist to grace the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, emphasized that he is an “intentional” man who approaches life with purpose and clarity.
In a candid interview, Rema explained his thoughts on fatherhood, stating, “I feel like there’s a need for us [family] to get bigger and become a whole empire if we can. And then neither do I want to wait for it to become a mistake before I decide to be a father. I’m very particular and I don’t really be h*eing around.” His words highlight his intention to build a strong and stable foundation before starting a family, rejecting the idea of casual relationships or unplanned parenthood.
Rema also addressed his relationships with fellow artists Ayra Starr and South African singer Tyla. He referred to both as “family,” adding, “Ayra’s family, for sure. Tyla’s family. We’re good friends because I’ve been friends with Tyla even before everything.”
While Rema’s personal life is a subject of public interest, his music continues to captivate audiences worldwide. In fact, American singer and actress Selena Gomez recently praised Rema’s artistry, expressing admiration for his talent. In an exclusive chat with Rolling Stone, Gomez shared, “I am completely impressed with Rema as an artist. I believe the future for him is truly endless with what he can achieve. I was a fan of the song [‘Calm Down’] even before I jumped onto the remix. What really stands out for me is how the song continued to grow even a year after it was first released.”
As Rema’s star continues to rise on the global stage, his messages about personal values and intentional living are resonating with fans and fellow artists alike, solidifying his place as one of the most influential African musicians of his generation.
