Grammy-nominated singer Davido opened up about a memorable encounter with hip-hop legend 50 Cent—an encounter that initially left him feeling snubbed.
Davido, who was just 14 years old at the time, shared that his family was in Las Vegas celebrating his older brother’s 21st birthday. Despite being a massive fan of 50 Cent’s work, the young Davido was excited to meet the rapper in person.
50 Cent Snubs Davido, Refuses to Take Picture With Him
During the trip, Davido snapped a photo with Lloyd Banks, another artist he admired. However, when he turned to 50 Cent for a picture, things didn’t go as he expected. According to Davido, 50 Cent bluntly refused his request, walking away without a second thought.
Years later, Davido had the opportunity to remind 50 Cent of the awkward moment. In response, the rapper acknowledged the success Davido had achieved, saying, “You are here now, right?”
Reflecting on the experience, Davido explained, “My brother was turning 21, and my dad took everybody to Vegas, but I was 14, so I was just sitting in the lobby. I loved Lloyd Banks, he was my favorite, so I took a picture with him. Then I saw 50 Cent and went up to him, saying, ‘Wow! 50 Cent, I love you. Can I have a picture?’ He said, ‘No’ and just walked off.”
The two stars have since moved past the incident, with 50 Cent even bringing Davido on stage as a surprise guest performer at his Madison Square Garden show in New York. It was a full-circle moment for Davido, who is now a globally recognized artist in his own right.
