Davido: “I’ve Never Met Nicki Minaj Despite Collaborations”
Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed that despite collaborating twice with American rapper Nicki Minaj, they have never met face-to-face. In a recent interview on the Bootleg Kev podcast, Davido shared the details behind their successful collaborations, including their 2020 hit “Holy Ground” and Nicki Minaj’s 10th anniversary album Pinkprint.

Davido: “I’ve Never Met Nicki Minaj Despite Collaborations
The first collaboration came about in an unexpected way. Davido explained how he noticed Nicki Minaj had started following him on social media, prompting him to reach out through a direct message. “I noticed that she was following me, and I texted her. I woke up the next morning and saw her reply. I was shocked. I told her I had a song for us, and she said she was interested,” Davido said, recalling the moment. He explained that this exchange took place around 2019 or 2020, and just two days after sending her the track, Nicki Minaj sent back her verse.
Their plans to shoot a music video together in Los Angeles, however, fell through due to Nicki Minaj’s pregnancy at the time. Despite this, their professional relationship remained strong, with Davido praising her support and professionalism.
“We went to L.A. to shoot the video, but it didn’t work out because she was having her baby at that time. But we’ve always been close since then,” Davido said. He added that Nicki Minaj reached out to him again for their second collaboration on her Pinkprint anniversary album.
Davido also spoke highly of Nicki Minaj’s work ethic and support, describing her as “amazing.” He emphasized that even though they’ve never met in person, they have maintained a strong bond through frequent communication.
“I have never met her. It’s crazy. We speak on the phone all the time. The first time we linked was through DM,” he said.
