Comedian Forever Recalls Being Paid Just N50 by a Church in 2007

Comedian Forever, born Akuidolo Orevaoghene, has humorously opened up about his experiences with church payments after being invited to perform. In an interview with Arise TV, the comedian shared how he has developed a selective approach when it comes to accepting payments from churches, with some churches receiving his services for free while others are charged.

Reflecting on a particularly memorable incident from 2007, Forever recalled how he was paid a meager N50 by a church. At first, he thought it was a joke, but after another person confirmed the payment, he realized it was legitimate. This experience has shaped his current approach to church performances.

“Some churches I don’t charge, and some I do,” Forever explained. “I’ve gone to certain churches and told them to use their mind to pay me, but I ended up asking if they really had any mind at all.”

Forever went on to say that now, when a church invites him, he tells them that he doesn’t charge, but he wants to know how much they are willing to pay. This allows him to gauge how much they appreciate his years of expertise. “The reason they call me is not because I’m the only funny person, but because they trust the expertise I’ve mastered over the years,” he said.

In addition to this, Forever shared a surprising experience with a large church in the East where he was invited to perform at the General Overseer’s birthday celebration. Expecting a substantial payment, he was shocked to receive only N150,000, especially considering the long distance he traveled to perform.

“There’s a big church in the East that invited me two years ago to surprise their G.O on his birthday. I was shocked when I received N150,000. I imagined myself leaving Lagos to collect N150,000 in the East,” he said, laughing at the unexpected and humorous outcome of the situation.

Forever’s candid reflections highlight the sometimes amusing, yet challenging, realities comedians face when it comes to payment for performances, especially when dealing with organizations like churches. Despite the humorous stories, the comedian continues to hone his craft, balancing humor with the realities of his profession.
