Soso: Beyoncé Was Nearly Part of KCee’s Hit “Limpopo

Nigerian music executive Soso has revealed that Grammy-winning superstar Beyoncé was almost featured on KCee‘s 2013 hit Limpopo, a collaboration that would have been a game-changer for the Nigerian music scene.

In an interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Soso, who is a close associate of KCee and his former producer, shared the story behind the almost-collaboration. He recounted how they had initiated discussions with Beyoncé’s team, with plans for her to come to Nigeria, perform, and feature on Limpopo. Soso explained, “Limpopo was supposed to be a song featuring Beyoncé. We were in talks with her team after a billionaire wanted to bring her to Nigeria. We even went to Jay-Z’s club in New York to get information on how to reach her.”

The team hurriedly recorded the song, hoping to have Beyoncé’s vocals added later. “We did not know the song would be a hit,” Soso admitted, reflecting on the uncertainty of the project at the time.

However, despite the excitement, the collaboration never came to fruition.

As the story goes, Beyoncé’s camp eventually informed Soberekon that she would not be coming to Nigeria, and the collaboration fell apart. “The agent called and broke our hearts, saying Beyoncé would not be in Nigeria, but in Ghana,” Soso revealed. “We couldn’t meet her there, and the next thing we knew, we released the song, and it became a massive hit.”

Despite the setback, Limpopo went on to dominate the charts and remains one of KCee’s biggest songs to date.
