A Nigerian social influencer, Ramon Abbas, 37, a.k.a. “Hushpuppi” made his initial U.S. court appearance yesterday in Chicago, where he is facing criminal charges on allegations
The Dubai-based Nigerian arrested last month for alleged Internet fraud has secured the service of a top criminal defence attorney in Chicago.
According to reports, Hushpuppi is likely to be transferred to Los Angeles in the coming weeks and he is said to have hired a top Chicago criminal lawyer popularly known as Gal Pissetzky of Pissetzky & Berliner and he made his first appearance in court on behalf of Hushpuppi on July 6, Premium Times reports.
Hushpuppi’s removal process seems to have made it difficult for him to enter a plea deal. According to Premium Times, his plea might not be taken and he may not be entitled to bail until his transfer to Los Angeles.
Mr. Pissetzky would likely counsel Mr Abbas through the removal process in Chicago, but it was unclear whether or not he would follow the suspect to Los Angeles. The attorney was not available for comments when PREMIUM TIMES reached his office on Tuesday.
