Written by on July 23, 2019

Nigerian actor turned politician, Desmond Elliot, was trending on social media after he called for the ban of foreign movies in Nigeria.

Elliot explained that this should be done in order to grow the Nigerian film industry. According to him, taking such actions and aggressively investing in the entertainment industry is the key to making it thrive globally.

Nigerian radio host and presenter, Daddy Freeze,  has also shared his opinion on the issue. According to him, people should be able to choose what they want to watch if they are paying for it.

“Dear Brother Desmond, I love you, but I’m not with you on this. I should be able to choose what I want to watch if I’m paying for it, shouldn’t I? Why don’t you strive to raise Nollywood to Hollywood standards and then people will gravitate towards Nollywood naturally?”
