The story began with a surprising FaceTime call. One of Chris Brown’s close Nigerian friends, who was also a longtime associate of Davido, called him casually while hanging out at Brown’s house in Los Angeles. During the call, Davido heard his own music playing in the background.

Curious, he asked where his friend was. He replied, “I’m at Chris Brown’s crib.” Moments later, the camera flipped to show Chris Brown dancing to Davido’s track.

“I was shocked,” Davido recalled. “It was surreal to see someone like Chris Brown—one of the biggest artists in the world—vibing to my music.”

That brief encounter set the stage for a much bigger connection. A few months later, Davido traveled to the U.S. and met Chris Brown in person. What began as a fan moment quickly turned into a genuine friendship.

“We just clicked,” Davido said. “It wasn’t about fame or music at first. It was two people with mutual respect. The music came naturally after that.”

Since then, their partnership has produced one of the most successful Afrobeats–R&B collaborations. Their first hit together, “Blow My Mind,” dropped in 2019 and quickly became a global success, helping Davido solidify his place in the U.S. market.

They didn’t stop there. The duo reunited in 2021 for the track “Shopping Spree,” featuring Young Thug. More recently, they collaborated behind the scenes on Davido’s 2025 album ‘5ive’, showcasing their creative chemistry.

“Chris has always supported me—not just as an artist, but as a friend,” Davido shared. “He gave me access, opportunities, and showed me the value of collaboration without ego.”

As Davido continues to rise, he credits moments like that first FaceTime call as proof that sometimes, the biggest career shifts come from the smallest, most unexpected encounters.
