Ice Prince Hails MI Abaga as His Mentor, Says “I Was Taught by the Best

Nigerian rapper Ice Prince Zamani has praised veteran lyricist MI Abaga for shaping his rap career, saying the training he received makes it impossible for him to deliver a subpar verse.

The Oleku crooner shared his thoughts in a recent interview, expressing full confidence in his lyrical ability. He believes he can shine on any track, no matter the beat or the artist.

“I can rap on any beat, with anybody, any rapper, and I will stand out. I’m not going to have a wack verse on a song,” Ice Prince said.
“I’m not saying other rappers can’t rap or do their thing, but it can’t be said that I’m wack. I was brought up by the best. Shout out to MI Abaga.”

He added:

“I rapped with MI for years. That’s my big brother. He taught me how to do this, and he taught me well.”

Ice Prince became a household name in 2011 with Oleku, a hit single from his debut album Everybody Loves Ice Prince. Since then, he has continued to release chart-topping tracks and collaborate with top artists.

He credited MI not just for teaching him rap but also for instilling discipline, confidence, and finesse in his music.

Calling MI a “big brother and mentor,” Ice Prince noted that the years they spent working together built a strong foundation. That training, he said, reflects in every verse he delivers.

This heartfelt tribute highlights MI Abaga’s lasting impact on Nigerian hip-hop and his role in grooming a new generation of rappers under the Chocolate City label.
