Skales Reflects on Challenges of Being an Independent Artist

Nigerian singer Skales has shared how his faith has helped him navigate the ups and downs of being an independent artist. In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), he expressed gratitude for his journey and emphasized that despite not having the backing of a major record label, his trust in God remains his biggest support.

He wrote on X: “The same God wey open this door.. go guide me through … it’s easier said than done .. na independent artist I be, no major backing but the majorest backing which is my lord and savior… we dey go higher my fans make una no worry”.

Skales began his career with Empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E), where he contributed to the label’s debut album Empire Mates State of Mind and toured with his label mates, including Wizkid. After his contract with E.M.E ended in 2014, Skales founded his own record label, OHK Music, where he has since released hit singles like Shake Body and signed new talent such as Drey Beatz.

Despite the challenges of being an independent artist, Skales continues to find strength through his faith, confident that the same guidance that opened doors for him in the past will continue to lead the way. His message serves as an inspiration for aspiring artists, proving that success isn’t just about industry support, but also about perseverance and a strong belief in yourself.
