I learned To Be Kind From Don Jazzy: Deyemi Okanlawon

In an exclusive interview with Max Hits on max102.3fm earlier today, Award-winning Nollywood actor, director, and producer Deyemi Okanlawon, shared his personal insights into balancing a successful career in the entertainment industry with his commitment to family life. In a candid interview, Deyemi reflected on the pressures that come with societal expectations of men and how he strives to manage both his professional achievements and personal responsibilities.

Deyemi Okanlawon Opens Up About Balancing Family, Business, and Parenthood

I had it tough growing up, and now I want my family to enjoy more,” Deyemi shared. “I work hard to provide for them — to buy my wife everything she deserves and ensure my children attend the best schools. But over time, I realized that in focusing too much on work, I was missing out on precious moments with my family. So, I retraced my steps, and now I dedicate more time to my loved ones.”

Deyemi’s decision to shift his priorities has also led him to explore new avenues in the entertainment industry, including producing his own films. “Producing my own movies allows me to have more control over my time and schedule. It gives me the flexibility to spend quality moments with my kids while still adding value to my career,” he explained. “Even though making money for the family is important, it’s crucial not to neglect the major aspect — being present and involved with your family.”

In discussing the ongoing debate in the entertainment industry regarding the divide between “mainstream” actors and digital content creators, Deyemi made a firm stand. “There’s no such thing as a ‘YouTube actor’ or a ‘mainstream actor.’ An actor is an actor. Some people find entertainment value in one kind of film, while others enjoy another kind. There is no division. Everyone, from producers to actors, has their own audience, and that’s what matters globally.”

Deyemi’s perspective sheds light on the evolving landscape of the entertainment industry, where digital content is increasingly gaining recognition and respect, and creators from all platforms are carving their paths to success.

When asked about how he spends his time away from the spotlight, Deyemi shared a heartfelt response. “When I’m not filming, I’m at home with my kids. Growing up, I didn’t receive the kind of training I needed, and I know the society we live in can be harsh and corrupt. I don’t want my children to be raised by strangers — I want to be the one to shape and guide them,” he said. “I take that responsibility seriously and want to raise the kind of kids I would be proud of.”

During the interview, Ella, one of the hosts, took a moment to express her gratitude for Deyemi’s support over the years. She explained how a simple act of kindness from him — liking her content — had a lasting impact on her career. In his typical humble fashion, Deyemi responded, “Part of my work is to be kind and to encourage others. I learned that from Don Jazzy, he did that for me years back, and it has stuck with me.”

Deyemi Okanlawon’s candid reflections on balancing family, business, and personal values offer valuable lessons on prioritizing what truly matters. His journey serves as an inspiration for anyone looking to make meaningful connections while striving for professional success.
