Court Filing: Diddy Tried to Influence Jury via Social Media

Prosecutors are intensifying their efforts against Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as his trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges nears. In a new court filing, prosecutors accuse him of attempting to interfere with witnesses and influence public opinion, all while in detention at the Brooklyn Metro Detention Center. Moreover, they contend that these actions reflect a deliberate effort to disrupt the legal process.

As a result, they argue, his behaviour shows a clear intent to obstruct justice and manipulate the outcome of his case. This development comes as Combs continues to seek bail. The court is scheduled to hear his $50 million bail proposal next week. Since his September arrest, Combs has remained incarcerated. However, his legal team has persistently sought his release, arguing that he should be granted bail. Despite this, prosecutors continue to oppose his release, citing concerns about his potential to interfere with the case.

The filing, submitted late Friday, November 15, in Manhattan federal court, accuses Combs of witness tampering and trying to influence the jury pool. Prosecutors say they intercepted jail calls in which Combs allegedly instructed family members to contact victims and witnesses. He reportedly asked them to craft favourable “narratives” to improve his image and potentially impact the trial. The new motion highlights Combs’ disregard for rules, even in custody, and his attempts to obstruct justice. Prosecutors wrote that Combs has repeatedly flouted rules to influence his case and argued that he cannot be trusted to follow court conditions.

A troubling part of the filing focuses on Combs’ birthday celebration on November 4. His children posted a video on social media wishing him a happy 55th birthday.

However, authorities argue that Combs directed his family on how to craft a narrative to sway public opinion. Additionally, they claim that he monitored the video’s performance, which further suggests that the gesture was not genuine. Instead, it appears to be part of an effort to manipulate public perception.

Furthermore, the court filing accuses Combs of attempting to contact witnesses and victims anonymously. Prosecutors argue that Combs aimed to gather information to benefit his defence through these actions.
