Asake’s Controversial Encounter with Fan Sparks Backlash

Written by on September 30, 2024

Nigerian artist Asake has come under scrutiny following an incident in which he reportedly stepped on a fan’s iPhone 16 Pro Max, causing significant damage.

Despite this, the fan, identified as Adeoti, has publicly expressed his continued admiration for the artist.

The incident took place on September 29, 2024, when Adeoti shared a TikTok video capturing his attempt to photograph Asake. In the footage, Asake pushes the phone to the ground and stomps on it.

Adeoti commented, “@asakemusic You broke my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Just because they are upset inside the nightclub doesn’t mean they should react like that towards a fan. Anyway, I still love you.”

This video quickly gained traction on social media, eliciting a range of responses from users. Many expressed disappointment and outrage, suggesting that the incident highlighted a broader issue regarding celebrity behaviour towards fans.

Some users criticized Asake’s actions, with one commenting, “A gutter behaviour. Person you suppose deck bro to bro,” while another questioned whether he would have reacted the same way if the fan were of a different background.

Others reflected on Asake’s rise to fame, urging him to remember his humble beginnings. “People forget easily where they’re coming from. I’m sure Asake at one point in his life wanted to take pictures with celebrities too. How do you treat a fellow human being like that?”

Conversely, some commenters defended Adeoti, saying, “When you people act as if you’re not loved at home around these celebrities,” while others doubted his continued affection for Asake after the incident.

The situation underscores the ongoing dialogue about celebrity behaviour and fan interactions in the age of social media.
