Ian McKellen could soon be back on the big screen as Gandalf! The beloved actor revealed he might return to his iconic role in the upcoming Lord of the Rings movies still in the planning stages.

In an interview with Big Issue, McKellen said, “I’ve heard there will be more films with Gandalf, and they hope I’ll return.”

I’ll play him again. I don’t know when that will be or what the script will look like since it isn’t written yet.” He added with a chuckle, “So they’d better be quick!”

Ian McKellen first played Gandalf in Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, which included The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, released between 2001 and 2003.

His portrayal earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Supporting Actor and an Academy Award nomination.

He also voiced Gandalf in several Lord of the Rings video games and reprised the role in Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012), The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).

Recently, McKellen starred in *Player Kings* in London’s West End but had to leave after a fall caused a chipped vertebra and a fractured wrist.

Thankfully, his injuries weren’t life-threatening, but he had to miss the rest of the play’s run and its national tour.
