Iconic American singer Mariah Carey has shared the heartbreaking news that she lost both her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, over the weekend.
Mariah was able to spend the last week with her mother before her passing, which she described as a bittersweet moment.
On August 26, 2024, Mariah Carey expressed her grief in a statement to People Magazine. She said, “My heart is broken that I lost my mother this past weekend. Tragically, my sister also passed away on the same day. I’m thankful I got to be with my mom in her final days.”
While Carey did not disclose the causes of their deaths, she asked for privacy during this difficult time. “I appreciate everyone’s love and support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she added.
In her 2020 memoir, *The Meaning of Mariah Carey*, she detailed her complex relationship with her mother, describing it as a mix of pride, pain, and gratitude.
She wrote, “My journey with my mother has been full of contradictions and competing realities. It’s never been just black-and-white — it’s been a rainbow of emotions.”
Patricia and Alfred had two children together: Mariah and her brother Morgan.
