Nollywood Veteran Wale Ojo to Direct New Film: This Is Not a Nollywood Movie!

Written by on August 20, 2024

Veteran actor and director Wale Ojo has just announced his next big project: This Is Not a Nollywood Movie. The news dropped on August 17, 2024, via a social media post where Ojo shared his enthusiasm for the film.

In his post, Ojo described the film as a “satirical explosive comedy” aimed at bringing joy and laughter to audiences. He cheekily noted that the title is a tongue-in-cheek nod, emphasizing that the film is all about humour.

“Don’t be fooled by the title,” he said in the video caption. “It’s all about laughs because I believe laughter is an orgasm of the heart, and that is the purpose and aim of this film.”

For those who might not know, Wale Ojo is a familiar face in Nollywood. Wale Ojo first gained recognition as a child actor in the UK television series Othello, achieving prominence with The Hard Case in 1995.

His impressive filmography includes Phone Swap, which won him the Nigeria Entertainment Award for Best Actor in 2012, and Meet the Adebanjos, leading to an AMVCA nomination.

Ojo’s notable titles span Half of a Yellow Sun, Big Man, A Letter from Adam, When Love Happens, Ojukokoro, Lara and the Beat, and Breath of Life. The latter earned him the Best Lead Actor award at this year’s AMVCA.

Beyond his acting career, Ojo founded the New Nigeria Cinema project. This initiative aims to improve the quality and global reach of Nigerian films.

He is also a passionate advocate for education and the arts, frequently engaging in workshops and mentoring emerging talents. The movie will feature a stellar cast, including Hanks Anuku, Shatta Bandle, Broda Shaggi, and Boma Akpore.
