Nigerian Filmmakers Invited to Submit Entries for 97th Oscars

The Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC) invites filmmakers to submit films for the 97th Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category. This category honours top feature films from outside the U.S. with at least 50% dialogue in a non-English language.
The NOSC, accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), will manage Nigeria’s official entry selection.
The submission portal will be open from August 1, 2024, to August 30, 2024. Filmmakers can submit their entries through the NOSC’s website at www.thenosc.org.
Films must meet the Academy’s criteria, including accurate and clear English subtitles, specific shooting formats, and proof of a theatrical release. Detailed submission requirements are available on the NOSC website.
This year, actress Stephanie Linus will lead the NOSC. Additionally, the committee has welcomed several new members, including Ali Nuhu, the managing director of the Nigerian Film Corporation; producer and director Blessing Effiom Egbe; actress Ijeoma Grace Agu; Nile Entertainment CEO Kene Okwuosa; and journalist Victor Akande. Furthermore, these additions will not only expand the committee’s diversity but also enhance its overall expertise.
Returning members include: Victor Okhai, president of the Directors’ Guild of Nigeria (DGN), Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Former DGN president Andy Amenechi, Theatre practitioner Yibo Koko, Writer and director Izu Ojukwu, Film producer Emem Isong, Director Dimeji Ajibola, Writer and director Jude Idada, Director John Njamah, Actress Meg Otanwa
Stephanie Linus emphasized that the inclusion of new members with diverse creative backgrounds will enrich the selection process. The committee will be responsible for collecting, screening, and voting on the films that will represent Nigeria.
The 97th Academy Awards will take place on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The ceremony will broadcast live to over 200 territories worldwide, highlighting the best in global cinema.
