Actress Kate Henshaw Takes a Stand Against Tardiness, Rejects ‘African Time’

Written by on July 16, 2024

Kate Henshaw, a Nigerian actress, strongly opposes the idea of “African time” and criticizes tardiness as disrespectful.
She expressed her disapproval on X on July 15, 2024, condemning the common excuse used to justify being late in African cultures.

In her post, she stated, “There is no such thing as ‘African time.’ It’s disrespectful and rude!! When it comes to money or embassy appointments, you are punctual! Spare me that attitude. I strongly dislike being late.”

Her statement resonated with her followers, who also condemned the concept of African time. One comment read, “Absolutely true. The phrase ‘African time’ doesn’t reflect our culture.

Our ancestors, who relied on the rooster’s crow, valued punctuality. Some people just use this theory to justify their laziness.” Another follower added, “No one misses an embassy appointment unless there’s an emergency.”

Discussing the impact of tardiness on societal norms, another user wrote, “There’s no excuse for ‘African time.’ It only encourages lateness and paints Africa as a continent with poor time management. Time should be respected universally.”

“I recently told someone this, and they replied, ‘Get out of here with your European mentality.’ The truth is, we are early for things involving money but use African time for other things,” remarked another user.
