Nigerian singer Aituaje Iruobe, popularly known as Waje has revealed why she disliked being tagged an “underrated artist.”
Despite the admiration from her fans, who argue that her talent and contributions to the music industry merit more recognition, Waje expressed her preference to avoid the “underrated” tag.
In the latest episode of the Secrets Behind the Scenes podcast, Waje elaborated on her stance, stating that being called “underrated” is not a compliment as some may assume.
She emphasized that words carry power and significance, and while some might interpret being labeled as “underrated” as a form of recognition, she personally finds it unfavorable.
Waje concluded by highlighting the importance of individual perceptions of success, emphasizing that one’s sense of accomplishment is a personal journey between oneself and one’s mindset.
She said, “I do not like being addressed as an underrated artist. Words have power. Some people might celebrate it “being called underrated” and make it like, ‘People see who I am and that’s why they said so.’
Your perception of success is between you and your mind.”
