Rema Announces Release of Highly Anticipated Song “Baby (Is It a Crime)”
Nigerian music star Rema has taken to social media to announce the release of his highly anticipated song, “Baby (Is It a Crime).” The track, set to drop on Friday, comes with an official music video, which Rema teased earlier this week.
In his post, Rema wrote, “Baby (Is It a Crime) out Friday and official music video.” The song samples British-Nigerian singer Sade Adu’s iconic 1985 hit “Is It a Crime”, and Rema has been building anticipation for the track for months. In November, he shared a video showcasing his unique twist on the classic, sparking excitement among his fans.
Born Divine Ikubor, Rema signed with D’Prince’s Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019. Since then, the young artist has skyrocketed to international success. His hit song “Calm Down”, featuring Selena Gomez, made history at the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs), winning the first-ever Best Afrobeats category. Spotify also recognized him as one of the most exported artists, dominating sub-Saharan Africa’s music charts in 2023.
Rema’s sophomore album “HeIs” made waves in 2024, setting the record for the biggest first-week streams on Spotify Nigeria. The album was also nominated for Best Global Music Album at the 2025 Grammys, although it lost to Matt B’s “Alkebulan II” featuring the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
The singer has confidently declared that he is officially on par with the Afrobeats Big 3, solidifying his position as one of the genre’s leading global ambassadors. With “Baby (Is It a Crime)” set for release, fans can look forward to yet another hit from the chart-topping artist.
