Nigerian singer Ayra Starr made history at the 2025 MOBO Awards, taking home two prestigious awards on Wednesday in Newcastle, United Kingdom. Celebrating music of Black origin, the MOBO Awards recognized Starr as the Best International Act, marking her as the first African female to win this esteemed category. She also claimed the Best African Music Act award, becoming the first female to win in this category in 16 years.
In addition to Ayra Starr’s triumph, other notable winners included Darkoo, a Nigerian-British rapper, who earned the title of Best Female Act, and Central Cee, who secured the Best Male Act award. The 90s Baby Show podcast was named Best Media Personality, while Nigerian-born singer Odeal took home the Best Newcomer award.
