Initially, singing in his church choir and writing songs to impress peers were mere pastimes, but it wasn’t until he won the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007 that he considered music as a career.

Dakolo reflected on his early days, saying, “I still see myself as an accidental musician. Yeah, I used to sing in choir. I used to just like that I sang.” He explained that his initial exposure to music came through morning devotion and later, street songs, which were written to impress girls. Despite these early experiences, he didn’t think he would pursue music professionally. However, after his success on Idols West Africa, he fully embraced his musical career, stating, “Sometimes you meet your destiny on the road you take to avoid it.”
