Tiwa Savage Slams Age-Shaming and Fashion Criticism
Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has expressed her frustration over the constant criticism she faces regarding her fashion choices, particularly age-shaming. In a candid conversation on The Receipts podcast, the singer highlighted the double standards she encounters, especially when compared to global stars like Beyoncé.
Tiwa Savage pointed out that while Beyoncé, also in her 40s, is often celebrated for her confidence and beauty, including wearing bikinis, she continues to receive harsh criticism from Nigerians due to her age. “They age-shame me every single day. They ask, ‘How can a woman of your age wear a bikini?’ I can because I have a body,” Tiwa asserted.
Savage emphasized the glaring double standards, noting that Beyoncé receives praise in the U.S. for looking youthful at her age, with comments like “black don’t crack.” In contrast, Tiwa faces negative comments about her fashion choices, particularly regarding her son. “They always say, ‘When your son grows up, he’s going to see this.’ My son will see a powerful and beautiful woman,” Tiwa confidently declared.
