Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has raised concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria, suggesting that it falls short compared to the United States. In a candid conversation on The Morning Hustle podcast, the singer shared his views on democracy, politics, and the importance of respecting electoral outcomes.

During the interview, Davido explained that despite voting for Kamala Harris, the Democratic Party’s vice-presidential candidate, he still congratulated Donald Trump after his 2016 electoral victory. He emphasized that his respect for American democracy led him to honor the results, regardless of his personal preference.

“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him,” Davido stated. He further highlighted the difference between the political systems in the two countries, saying, “What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so.”

The Afrobeats singer expressed admiration for the political processes in the United States, explaining that he supported Kamala Harris because of her potential to become the first female president in his lifetime. “To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool,” he added.
