Bovi Urges Police to Act After Disturbing Video of Priest and Altar Boy

Nigerian actor and comedian Bovi has voiced his outrage over a disturbing viral video showing a priest hitting an altar boy during a wedding ceremony.
On September 27, 2024, Bovi shared the video on social media, condemning the incident and criticizing the lack of accountability for such abuse in Nigeria.
“I’ve tried to ignore this video, but after watching the priest’s apology, I’m even more upset about how many forms of abuse go unchecked in Nigeria,” he stated.
Bovi expressed his anger regarding the priest’s actions and found the subsequent apology unsatisfactory.
In the poorly staged apology video, the priest referred to his actions as a “normal correction” and “a minor correction.” Bovi noted that another adult in the video seemed to support the priest, suggesting he would have been blamed if he hadn’t acted that way.
“He hit a defenceless child and humiliated him. This harmed the child’s confidence for a very trivial reason. Just imagine what would happen if that child made a real mistake,” Bovi added.
He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, questioning the priest’s ability to control himself in public. “If he can’t control himself publicly, think about what he might do behind closed doors. If we consider this normal behaviour, then we are all abnormal.”
Bovi called on the Nigerian police to take action, highlighting the broader implications of such behaviour. “Hitting a child unprovoked is a violent act. @nigerianpolice, why haven’t you intervened? If you protect one child, you can save many others. We need to address these issues before they escalate. In a society where a priest uses physical harm to express his emotions, we are heading for trouble,” he concluded.
