British Nigerian singer and producer Okunola Abdul Maleek Anu-Oluwapo Shoyebi, professionally known as Maleek Berry has shared a surprising story about Davido’s early days in the music scene.
On a podcast show, Maleek Berry revealed that despite Davido’s wealthy background, the Nigerian superstar once pretended to be from a modest background.
Maleek Berry recounted his experiences working with Davido when they were both emerging artists. “I was there when Davido only had four thousand YouTube views.
When he came to London, I used to take him to a studio in Bermondsey and we’d record together,” Berry shared.
Berry described how Davido managed to blend in with his peers and gave the impression of coming from a less privileged background.
“He acted like one of those kids who didn’t have much. But when I visited his dad’s place, I was blown away. There’s rich, and then there’s rich!” Berry said.
He admitted that Davido’s family’s lavish lifestyle blew him away, saying, “I didn’t expect him to be so wealthy.” He fit in so well with us that it never crossed my mind he had money. When I saw the mansion, I realized just how rich they were.”
