Flavour Reflects on Early Career Days: From ₦5,000 Beats to Global Stardom

Nigerian hitmaker Flavour recently took a trip down memory lane, sharing insights from his early career in a candid podcast interview. Known for his chart-topping hits and global acclaim, Flavour’s journey to fame was anything but overnight.

In the interview, Flavour recounted his early days, revealing how he started charging just ₦5,000 per beat. His music career began with a significant break: playing piano for rapper Nigga Raw (now Mr. Raw).

Eager to dive deeper into music production, Flavour approached Nigga Raw’s producer for lessons, paying ₦1,000 weekly for training.

From these humble beginnings, Flavour honed his skills, eventually producing his tracks and charging ₦5,000 per beat.

He described the transition from learning studio production to becoming a full-fledged producer as a crucial step in his career.

Flavour also shared how he accompanied Nigga Raw, one of Eastern Nigeria’s top artists at the time, to various shows.

Recording the chorus for one of Nigga Raw’s hit songs provided Flavour with his first taste of success and insight into his career potential. He credited Nigga Raw with opening his eyes to the essence of being an artist.

During the interview, Flavour discussed his early dilemma between pursuing RnB or Highlife. After discovering that RnB might not be as profitable, he chose to embrace Highlife Fusion, which would define his musical identity.

A major turning point in Flavour’s career came when he received a call from the renowned music marketer Obaino Music. This call led him on a pivotal journey from Enugu to Lagos, marking the beginning of his quest for fame.

Flavour also opened up about his experience with online impersonation. He revealed that fraudsters used his photos to scam vulnerable users, including elderly women seeking companionship.

The issue gained major attention when Flavour appeared on MTV’s Catfish, exposing how a scammer used his identity to deceive Kimberly.

Flavour’s rise from a modest producer to a global music sensation highlights his dedication and resilience throughout his career.
