Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba has taken a firm stand against the rising trend of having children outside of marriage, labelling it as “madness” and “selfish.”

Uchemba voiced his concerns directly, questioning the logic behind intentionally starting a family without the intention of marriage.

“Why are we doing this?” he asked. “Some young men think it’s okay to get their girlfriends pregnant just to avoid commitment and marriage. That’s pure foolishness.”

He argued that this practice harms family values and has negative consequences for the children involved. “If you’re considering this, know that you’re not only hurting yourself but also damaging the child’s future,” he warned.

The actor highlighted the broader impact of broken homes, pointing out that many global issues stem from family instability.

“Many of the world’s problems come from broken homes, whether it’s an absent father or mother. God established marriage and family for a reason.

Marriage and having children are part of that purpose. If you’re having kids just to escape commitment, you’re being selfish, and it will hurt the child,” he explained.

Uchemba also addressed women who choose to have children with their partners without marriage, criticizing this behaviour as “Western nonsense” that undermines traditional family values.

“Some women think it’s cool to have kids with their boyfriends. This trend, even in the entertainment industry, is damaging. Who taught you this?”

In his closing remarks, Uchemba urged a return to traditional values and respect for the institution of marriage. “If you’re not ready for commitment, stay away from having kids.

Mistakes can happen, but intentionally avoiding marriage while wanting its benefits is wrong. Let’s put an end to this! Wait until you’re truly ready.”

Uchemba’s comments have sparked a conversation about the importance of commitment and traditional family values in today’s society.
