Kunle Afolayan Explores Ghana for New Anikulapo Series Season Locations

Nigerian filmmaker Kunle Afolayan is embarking on a new adventure as he scouts locations for the upcoming season of “Anikulapo: Rise of the Sceptre”.

Known for his cinematic prowess, Afolayan is expanding the series beyond its original Oyo State setting. The first season captivated audiences with its unique storyline and was entirely shot at the Kunle Afolayan Production (KAP) Film Village in Igbojaye.In a move to enhance the series’ scope and visual appeal, Afolayan announced earlier this year his intention to film parts of the series in Ghana.

Recently, on Tuesday, July 23, he shared a series of photos on social media, showcasing his scouting mission across various locations in Ghana. This international collaboration is made possible through a partnership with Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, the CEO of Ghana’s National Film Authority.

Asante expressed enthusiasm about welcoming global filmmakers to Ghana, emphasizing the country’s stunning landscapes and top-notch filming facilities in a recent Instagram post.“Anikulapo” originally debuted as a 2022 Netflix original film, chronicling the intriguing tale of Saro, a stranger and traditional textile weaver who finds himself entangled in an unexpected romance with Queen Arolake in Oyo.

The upcoming series, set for release in 2024, promises to delve deeper into Saro’s complex journey of resurrection and Arolake’s ascent to wealth amidst newfound adversaries.

The stellar cast lineup for the series includes acclaimed actors such as Kunle Remi, Bimbo Ademoye, Sola Sobowale, Adebayo Salami, Layi Wasabi, Moji Afolayan, Aisha Lawal, Ronke Oshodi, Jide Kosoko, Adeniyi Johnson, Funky Mallam, Ogogo Taiwo Hassan, Eyiyemi Afolayan, Lateef Adedimeji, Uzee Usman, Gabriel Afolayan, and Owo Ogunde.
