Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi recently opened up about his decision to collaborate with teammates Chuba Akpom and Medy Elito on a song titled ‘Don’t Shoot’.
The inspiration for the song struck Iwobi during the summer break, following his impactful performance for Fulham during the 2023–2024 season.
His contributions, which included five goals and two assists in the Premier League, helped Fulham secure a 13th-place finish and advance to the Carabao Cup semifinals.
Iwobi explained that he aims the lyrics of ‘Don’t Shoot’ at encouraging young people, especially in London, to aim higher and avoid negative influences in urban environments.
“Growing up in London exposes you to a lot of criminal activities and negative influences,” Iwobi reflected. “With our platform, we wanted to send a positive message.
Channel your energy into something positive like football or music instead of involving yourself in harmful activities. The song came about organically, and when my friends heard it, they encouraged us to release it to the public.”
Despite his initial focus on football, Iwobi’s passion for music, coupled with his friends’ support, led him to record and share ‘Don’t Shoot’ with the world.
He emphasized that while football remains his primary focus, he values expressing his creativity through music as well.
Beyond his musical endeavours, Iwobi also revealed his admiration for Nigerian music icon Wizkid, demonstrating his enthusiasm by flawlessly reciting one of Wizkid’s songs during a recent interview.
Alex Iwobi is fully committed to the upcoming football season and preparing for Fulham’s Premier League opener against Manchester United on August 16th.
His dedication to both football and music reflects his multifaceted persona, highlighting his determination to make a positive impact both on and off the field.
