Eminem has released a new album called “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).” This album is a concept album that looks at his past controversies while also creating new ones.
He refers back to his famous Diddy hotel video and criticizes what he calls “woke BS.” He also playfully disses Kendrick Lamar and Kanye West.
The Detroit rapper’s album explores his career highlights and controversies. Eminem said this record marks the end of his alter ego, Slim Shady.
To promote the album, he used imagery of gravestones and even published an obituary in the Detroit Free Press. He encouraged fans to listen to the album in sequence, where he reflects on his alter ego and his controversial past.
In one playful verse, he criticizes Kendrick Lamar’s album, saying it lacked hit songs and makes fun of albums by Lil Wayne and Kanye West. Eminem also directly addresses the controversial Diddy Hotel video from 2016 in one of the album’s verses.
The album cover shows Slim Shady in a body bag, and in the “Tobey” music video, Eminem is depicted using a chainsaw on Slim Shady.
The album features guest appearances from Big Sean and BabyTron, and production credits include Dr. Dre on tracks like “Lucifer” and “Road Rage.” The song “Antichrist” includes a verse from Bizarre with transphobic themes.
On “Road Rage,” Eminem talks about transgender rights and shares controversial views about Lizzo and obesity. He suggests celebrating conditions like diabetes and dismisses the idea of dieting.
“The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” follows Eminem’s previous album “Music to Be Murdered By.” In addition to studio albums, Eminem has released expanded versions and greatest hits compilations.
