Written by on July 10, 2024

David Adedeji Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, born on November 21, 1992, is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer.

He is widely recognized as a pivotal figure in the Afrobeats genre in the 21st century, credited with popularizing it globally.

In another demonstration of his knack for creating hits, the Grammy-nominated artist contributed a verse to the remix of the viral single ‘Ogechi’, which has been gaining traction on TikTok.

Released on June 26, 2024, just a day after Davido’s highly publicized wedding, the remix propelled ‘Ogechi’ to the top of the TurnTable Nigeria Top 100.

During the chart week of June 28 – July 4, Brown Joel, Boypee, and Hyce’s ‘Ogechi’ remix featuring Davido claimed the number one spot on TurnTable Nigeria’s Top 100.

It achieved this with 6.76 million on-demand streams and 49.3 million radio impressions, making it the most streamed song and the most played on radio that week.

The success of the ‘Ogechi’ remix saw off competition from Burna Boy’s ‘Higher’, which settled for second place. Olamide’s ‘Metaverse’ from his new EP ‘Ikigai’ climbed 61 spots to reach No. 3, while Rema’s ‘Benin Boys’ featuring Shallipopi and Central Cee’s ‘Wave’ featuring Asake moved down to No. 4 and No. 5 respectively.

With the ‘Ogechi’ remix topping the TurnTable Nigeria Top 100, Davido reaffirms his stature as one of Afrobeats’ most prolific hitmakers. This marks his second No. 1 hit of 2024, following his feature on Kizz Daniel’s ‘Twe Twe’ remix.
