This significant legal development, announced on Wednesday, emanated from Ronaldo’s appeal to the Court of Arbitration.

In its ruling, the Court of Arbitration ordered Juventus Turin to disburse the precise amount of 9,774,166.66 euros to Ronaldo, inclusive of accrued interest and procedural costs. The decision highlighted the disparity between Ronaldo’s actual earnings and the contractual remuneration owed to him after necessary deductions, including taxes.

Ronaldo’s Italian tenure with Juventus, spanning three seasons from 2018 to 2021, preceded his stints at Manchester United (2021-22) and the Saudi club Al Nassr. Initially claiming 19.5 million euros, Ronaldo’s demand underwent a substantial 50 percent reduction following scrutiny by the arbitration panel.

When approached for comment by AFP, Juventus declined to provide immediate feedback, suggesting that an official statement addressing the matter would be forthcoming.

The legal resolution comes against the backdrop of Ronaldo’s status as the highest-earning athlete in 2023, as per Forbes’ rankings. With a total income of $136 million, a significant portion attributed to wages, Ronaldo’s financial prowess underscores his global appeal.

Juventus, a publicly listed entity, has faced financial challenges, evident in its disclosure of losses totaling 123.7 million euros for the 2022-23 fiscal year. Despite its prestigious position in Serie A, Juventus has yet to allocate funds in its financial accounts to cover the outstanding wage liabilities, a situation that warrants monitoring.
