Suspended DCP Abba Kyari, Six Others Arraigned in Court

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has on Monday, March 7 arraigned suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari, before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, over his alleged involvement in drug trafficking alongside six others, namely ACP Sunday Ubua, ASP Bawa James, Inspector Simon Agirigba, Inspector John Nuhu including Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne two alleged drug traffickers who were arrested at Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.
The NDLEA had filed eight counts of hard drug trafficking against Kyari, who has also been declared wanted in the United States for his alleged involvement with convicted fraudster, Ramon Abass, populary known as Hushpuppi. According to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kyari, between January 19 and 25, dealt in 17.55 kilograms of cocaine. He is also being charged with obstruction of justice and attempted bribery of NDLEA officers.
As the charges were read to them by Joseph Sunday, who is the NDLEA director of prosecution and legal services, Abba Kyari, and four other defendants have pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them. It is however worthy to note the sixth and seventh defendants namely Chibuinna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne pleaded guilty, Ezenwanne said, “My lord, I’m guilty; have mercy,”.
The arraignment is still on.
