Nigerian heavyweight acts Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid have dominated this year’s Spotify list for the most streamed artists in Nigeria.
Music streaming giant Spotify has released its annual feature ‘Spotify Wrapped’’ announcing its top artists, songs, albums, genres and podcasts for this year based on users on the platforms around the world
As expected, Afrobeats stars, Davido, Wizkid and Burnaboy topped the list, with Wizkid coming first on the list, followed by Burna Boy and then Davido. Away from the afrobeat poster-boys, Canadian rapper and singer Drake also made the list, followed by YBNL rapper & Kingpin Olamide
Buju, Justin Bieber, Fireboy DML, Rema, and Tems also made it the 10-man list.
The Spotify Wrapped is a sort of report card that gives details of an artist’s activities all through the year, that is, the number of streams they garnered, the number of monthly listeners they got, the number of playlists their songs were added to, and countries where their songs are being listened to, amidst other reports.
In Spotify’s statement;
‘’In a year when we were getting to grips with the new normal, what was Nigeria’s soundtrack? In a first for the region, here are the 2021 Wrapped results, defining how Nigerians sought to stay entertained, informed, and connected with their favourite local and global music artists.
‘’Who are Nigerians listening to, and who are the newcomers that are shaking up the music scene? Who still has staying power in the new normal and how do our local artists compare with the globe’s top hits and international hitmakers?
