In a Q and A interview with the #MaxWetindey show with Walepowpowpow, music sensation and fast-rising star AV shares his journey so far. He talks about his struggle, Music and future.
Q: Why do you call yourself AV:
A: AV is an abbreviation of my name Adindu Victor. I didn’t want to lose my identity or pick a name that is not related to me so I decided to abbreviate my name.
Q: Where are you from?
A: My mum is from Edo State and my Dad is Igbo. I can’t speak Igbo but I can with Edo
Q: Did you know you would become this big?
A: Well, I had a feeling that something will happen this year but I didn’t know it will be this fast. I use to be a dancer before my song blew.
Q: Tell us about your background:
A: I am from a music background, My dad was a musician but he didn’t blow though (Laughed) he use to play the guitar but he is late now and my siblings sing as well.
Q: What’s the inspiration behind your hit song ‘Big Thug Boyz’?
A: Before I recorded this song, I travelled, I went on a trip with my friends. These sets of friends are actually the real Big Thug Boyz. I recorded the actions and everything they did that day. So the song is actually a real-life story.
The story aspect of the song is personal. I went for a show in Ghana, On my way coming back, I was stopped by the police and all of a sudden they started harassing me. I was even slapped. All for nothing. I felt really bad and was even put in a cell. They did not allow anyone to come to visit or bail me. I had to bail myself after I was assaulted and kept for a day without food.
I don’t like the police for any reason.
The hustling part of the song, it’s about my hustling spirit. Trying to find my way out of a miserable situation. I was a broke boy then. I like to make my music about me and what has happened to
me.
Q: Which comes first for you, Rhythm or Beat?
A: Rhythm comes before the beat for me. With a good rhythm, a beat can be created.
Q: Would you say you’re a spiritual person?
A: yes, I am a very spiritual person.
Q: Would you ever consider politics?
A: No, I will never do politics. It’s not my thing. I will try to make the world better with my music but definitely not with politics.
My advice to all upcoim9ing artists is to keep doing your things and believe one day you will blow.
Q: Are you a shy person?
A: Sometimes I can be shy but I am not. When it comes to talking to women, I can be but when I am comfortable with the environment I will be fine.
I came to Lagos to do music and trying to do that, I have done a lot of things, from cleaning to washing etc. When the money wasn’t coming for those who housed me, I asked to go look for a job so I decided to come to Lagos and fight for myself.
When people hail me when I move, it doesn’t make me proud but rather it humbles me because I know where I came from If I am to write a book about myself i8 will title it many
Q: Any words for your fans?
A: To my fans supporting me, I love you all so much. To my enemies, continue I dey wait una
