Embattled American Singer R. Kelly has been found guilty by a federal jury following a high-profile sex-trafficking case after being trailed by numerous allegations of sexual assault and misconduct involving young women and children for decades.
R.Kelly was convicted on nine charges, where he was found guilty on one count of racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, an interstate anti-sex trafficking law in which he was accused of sexual exploitation of a child, bribery and kidnapping among other disturbing crimes.
The conviction was also based on the accusation that the singer ran a criminal enterprise comprised of managers and assistants beneath him who helped him meet young women and girls for his sexual desires.
If you would recall, R. Kelly was first indicted in July 2019, and he pleaded not guilty to the charges last year. His trial however began on August 18, with the prosecution presenting testimony from forty-five witnesses over a span of nearly three weeks.
The jury, which consisted of seven men and five women deliberated the case for just two days.
Kelly has been in custody since his arrest outside his home in Chicago on July 11, 2019. He is still facing federal child pornography and obstruction charges in Illinois, where a trial will be scheduled now that the New York proceedings have ended.
His sentencing in New York is scheduled for May 4, 2022, as he faces a possible sentence of ten years to life in prison.
Just so you know in 2008, R. Kelly was acquitted of child pornography charges in Chicago after he was accused of making a sex tape with an underage female.
