Nigerian actress Damilola Adegbite is seen as one of the few talents in the Nollywood industry, from her award-winning acting skills as Thelema Duke in the television series ‘Tinsel’, the actress has featured in a number of films, like the AY Makun ‘Merry Men’.
In a recent interview with Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the actress opens up about the emotions she’s feeling boxed into romantic roles which forced her to retreat from the industry.
“I did feel like that at the beginning because I noticed that many of the roles I was being cast for were intimate roles
“So I want to be the poor girl on the streets, I want to be the person selling plantain, I want to experience different roles but they’ll tell you, you cannot sell plantains you’re light-skinned so yeah it was a bit of an issue it still is honestly, I think it still is but yeah I haven’t left by the way it’s not like I’ve left the industry I’m just very choosy, very picky I think that’s what it is.”
The Adegbite also indicated motherhood and her personality playing a part in her periodic hiatus. She revealed that for a while, she will prefer to be away from the celebrity spotlight, welcoming her son with ex-husband Chris Attoh with the responsibility of being a single mother may have influenced her decision to stay away from the glitz and glamour for the meantime.
