Retired American boxer, Floyd Mayweather has opened up on the loss of his ex-wife, Josie Harris, and his trainer uncle, Roger Mayweather, who both died last month.
Josie Harris, the mother of three of his children was found dead on Monday, March 2, 2020. The 40-year-old was discovered unresponsive in a car when police in Valencia, California were called to the scene.
Struggling with his own personal grief while Coronavirus is ravaging the world, Mayweather has now filmed a short video in which he has set out what he is going to do next, in order to help.
‘I haven’t had a chance to really come out and talk to the world, talk to the people,’ Mayweather said in a recorded post on his Instagram channel.
‘I’ve been dealing with a lot. As far as dealing with the loss of the mother of my children, she was a significant other, a great woman and a great person.
‘And dealing with [the death of] a great trainer, an uncle, a father figure, Roger Mayweather. I’ve been dealing with a lot and haven’t had chance to come out and speak to the world.’
Discussing the plight of the coronavirus pandemic, Mayweather continued: ‘I’m affected by this. It hurts to see what the world is going through, but I want us to stick together and keep believing,
‘No-one is perfect. I’m not perfect and strive to be a perfectionist every day. I make mistakes all the time and the only thing I can do is try to become better. But I’m here to help this world become a better place.’
Mayweather, who is worth around $565 million (£452m), went on to confirm he will help in the fight against coronavirus.
.
So with everything going on I’m going to continue to do my part and, I don’t have to show the world what I’m doing. I can do something behind closed doors, it’s not about the money,’ Mayweather added.
‘The money I’m giving up will be to feed the people and help the people who don’t have a lot in this situation.
‘I will continue to give back and I will never talk about it. As long as god knows I’m doing a good deed, that’s what’s important to me.
‘To everyone in the world, from Floyd Mayweather and the money team, we love you all and we will always be there for this country as well as this world.’
