Fabian Delph faced with dilemma as third child is due to arrive mid-tournament

Written by on May 30, 2018

England and Manchester City fullback Fabian Delph finds himself in ahead of the World cup. The 28-year-old could be faced with one major dilemma as his wife Natalie has been tipped to give birth on June 30 – a day before a potentially crucial round of 16 match involving England.

According to reports, Delph is fully aware of the possible clash of big occasions and is fully prepared for anything which might happen on the day. Delph has reportedly brought up the issue with England manager Gareth Southgate who has told him in advance that he would not be forced to stay with the team should he feel the need to be with his wife during the birth.

“Gareth has been fantastic. There’s nothing more important than family to me – family always comes first and always will,”.

While the two occasions are in many ways hard to separate for a footballer gracing the World cup stage, the former Aston Villa man is confident he can take care of business in Russia and back home in England.

“We’re not 100% certain, with a game on the 28th there might be an opportunity to fly back and then get back fast,” he added.

England face Belgium in the final Group G game on June 28, and if they proceed to the round of 16, they will face their next opponents on July 2. It essentially means Delph’s wife’s due date is literally in the middle of the two of England’s most crucial games in the competition.
