Popular Hollywood movie actor, producer and narrator, Morgan Freeman apologized on Thursday, May 24, 2018 following reports of sexual misconduct made by multiple women, including staff on film sets, employees of his production company, and journalists.
Soon after the story appeared, the Oscar-winning actor released a statement in which he said,
“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy. I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected that was never my intent.”
Sixteen people altogether spoke to a news source as regards to the investigation being carried out by the source, eight of the women claimed they were victims of sexual harassment while others complained about Freeman’s Inappropriate behavior.
Among the sixteen people, seven people at Revelations Entertainment described their experience of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior by Freeman, with one incident witnessed by Lori McCreary, Freeman’s co-founder in the enterprise, and another in which she was the target of demeaning comments by Freeman in a public setting.
According to the news source, a young production assistant who thought she had gotten the job of her dreams in the summer of 2015, when she started working on his bank robbery comedy “Going In Style“, starring Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin claims Morgan harassed her on different occasions over the period of months during the movie venture. She said that he touched her repeatedly without her permission and frequently made comments about her figure and clothing.
According to her, “Freeman would rest his hand on her lower back or rub her lower back”
And on one occasion, She said,
“he kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear but he never successfully lifted my skirt and then he would try again. Eventually, Alan Arkin made a comment telling him to stop. Morgan got freaked out and didn’t know what to say.”
According to sources, it didn’t stop there as the veteran actor’s inappropriate behavior was not constrained to that one movie set. A woman who was a senior member of the production staff of the movie “Now You See Me” in 2013 told the news source that Freeman sexually harassed her and her female assistant on numerous occasions by making comments about their bodies. She said,
“team members knew not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms,”or any fitted clothes, if Freeman was coming by them.”
The actor was also accused of staring at women’s breasts and asking women to twirl for him.
At 80 years old, Freeman is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars and he is the most recent in the accounts of Hollywood celebrities and other well known public figures accused of sexual misconduct since news about alleged serial abuser, Harvey Weinstein triggered the #MeToo movement last year in which a woman accused the actor of inappropriate behavior and harassment.
